This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
