Lawmakers Disclose Latest Collection of Epstein Photos as Justice Department Cut-off Date Approaches
Committee
The House Oversight Committee has published a collection of approximately 70 photos from the estate of late found guilty sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
This marks the latest in a series of disclosure from a tranche of over 95,000 photos the committee has secured from Epstein's property. It contains pictures of passages from the literary work Lolita inscribed across a female's body, and censored photos of women's overseas passports.
This disclosure comes hours before the 19 December deadline for the DOJ to disclose each documents related to its inquiry into Epstein.
"These latest photographs pose more questions about what exactly the Justice Department has in its possession," remarked the Democratic lead of the committee, Robert Garcia.
What is in the Photos Made Public
Several of the photographs published on this week depict Epstein in discussion with professor and activist Noam Chomsky on a private plane; Bill Gates standing beside a individual whose features is obscured; Steve Bannon positioned at a workstation facing Epstein, and previous Alphabet president Sergey Brin at a evening meal.
Investigative Body
These are the latest wealthy, prominent individuals to be seen in Epstein estate photos disclosed by the House Oversight Committee - formerly disclosed pictures also show US President Donald Trump and former president Bill Clinton, as well as director Woody Allen, former US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, lawyer Alan Dershowitz, Andrew Mountbatton-Windsor, and others.
Showing up in the images is does not constitute indication of any illegal activity, and several of the featured individuals have said they were in no way implicated in Epstein's criminal activity.
In a press release released with the photo disclosure, Democratic members on the US House Oversight Committee noted the Epstein estate's representatives did not offer explanatory details or timeframes for the pictures.
"Photographs were picked to provide the public with clarity into a representative sample of the photos acquired from the estate, and to give perspectives into Epstein's associates and his exceptionally alarming actions," the announcement says.
Oversight Panel
The disclosure also includes multiple photos of quotes from the Vladimir Nabokov literary work Lolita penned in dark ink across several locations of a woman's body, including her torso, lower extremity, hipbone, and rear. Lolita narrates the tale of a minor who was manipulated by a adult literature professor.
A particular quote from the novel scrawled across a female's chest reads, "Lolita's name: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the roof of the mouth to land, at three, on the teeth".
The release also contains a collection of photographs of women's identification and ID papers from nations around the world, such as Lithuania, Russia, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine.
Committee
Most of the data on the documents, including identities and birth dates, is censored but the House Oversight Committee said in a statement that the passports belong to "females whom Jeffrey Epstein and his conspirators were interacting with".
A further photo depicts Epstein positioned at a table intimately surrounded by three female figures whose features have been obscured - one individual has her palm on Epstein's chest under his shirt, and another individual is bending to look at a adjacent laptop. Epstein can be seen to be assisting the third fasten a wristband.
Investigative Body
A further photo made public is a image of SMS messages from an unidentified individual who says they have been supplied "a number of girls" and are demanding "$$1,000 per female".
Image Release Arrives Ahead of DOJ Due Date
The committee has thousands of photos in its holdings from the Epstein estate, which are "simultaneously disturbing and ordinary," its press release on this week explained.
The Congressional committee first legally compelled the holdings of Epstein, who was found dead in a New York jail in 2019 while facing trial on charges of sex trafficking crimes, in August.
The photographs and files the Epstein estate's representatives provided to the body are separate from what is commonly termed "Epstein-related records". Those files are records under the Department of Justice's possession connected to its separate investigation into Epstein.
Pursuant to the recently passed law, which Donald Trump enacted recently, the DOJ has until 19 December to release its files. The extent of the contents contained in the DOJ's records is unknown, and it's likely that a large amount of the information will be heavily censored, similar to House Oversight Committee materials
