Former Bengals and University of Texas Receiver Jordan Shipley Severely Injured in Farm Incident

Former Texas star and NFL receiver Jordan Shipley is hospitalized after suffering severe burns in an accident on his property near his Texas hometown.

The Tragic Event

According to a family statement, Shipley was using a machine when it ignited. The 40-year-old managed to escape, it was after he sustained severe burns over a large area of his body. He reached a ranch employee, who transported him to a local hospital. He was then care-flighted to Austin, where he is in critical but stable condition.

“We ask for prayers for a complete recovery and the prevention of infections and complications on his road to recovery,” wrote his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on social media.

Severity of the Injuries

It has been reported that Shipley suffered third-degree burns to more than 20% of his body. His brother noted that the primary risk at this stage is the threat of infection and pneumonia.

Recalling Jordan Shipley's Career

Shipley earned Associated Press All-America honors with the Longhorns in 2009. During his college career, he amassed 248 career catches for over 3,000 receiving yards and 33 touchdowns. A dual-sport athlete, he also competed in track for the university.

Selected in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, he had stints with multiple NFL teams over his professional career. His retirement came in 2014.
